Laser hemi zona essay

Spare cell whose zona pellicida has been cutted in two
hemispheric halves. The laser was fired in 8 adjacent and partly overlapping
shots. The laser beam dissolves the zona pellicida of the southern and
northern hemisphere simultaneously by going through the cytoplasm. |

In the next step both hemispheres are pulled apart using a
holding pipette (left)
and a biopsy pipette (right) |

|

Two hemispheric halves of a zona pellucida. Another
possibility consists in removing the zona at the equator level, a method
which produces a northern and a southern hemisphere. The efficiency of such
a method is less good because more zona pellicida material has to be removed
compared to the method described above. |
